Uh, Tweety? If you knew anything about Scott Garrett you'd know he IS a wingnut

On Tuesday, Tweety declared that Rep. Scott Garrett, lunatic right Congressman from NJ-5, isn't one of those "wackys" in the Republican Party:

I know all about Scott Garrett, because he's my Congressman. I've worked on three different campaigns to oust him. Scott Garrett keeps getting re-elected because the populous part of his district, Bergen County, is a party-line-voting district in which the majority is registered as Republican. Marge Roukema was our representative for 25 years, and she was the kind of moderate Republican that today Jim DeMint would drum right out of the party.

Garrett is a doctrinaire conservative who opposes extensions of unemployment benefits, relief for victims of natural disasters, and anything in opposition to the Tom DeLay/Jim DeMint/Looney DeLooney ideology of I Got Mine and Fuck You.

Matthews once again shows himself to be an uninformed idiot.

Thanks for posting this. I just read about it in The Record this morning, and it's infuriating. I've seen this reaction from uninformed press people before -- they have no idea how extreme Garrett's views are, and because he has a mild demeanor, they're fooled into thinking he might be moderate. Nothing could be further from the truth. I've tipped Media Matters to this blog entry, but it may be too old for them to use.

I urge anyone out there who spots a similar appearance by Garrett to alert Media Matters (mm-tips@mediamatters.org), or if you hear in advance that Garrett will be interviewed on a TV or radio show, please e-mail the show beforehand. Politely point out his outrageous positions on unemployment insurance, Katrina aid, health care, etc. This shouldn't be necessary, but it's clear that most reporters have no idea what a wingnut Garrett is.

uninformed: Yes!

Email to msnbc today:
Whether it be Limbaugh or anyone else, Chris Matthews did a terrible job of accurate reporting. After bashing the use of the word "regime", Matthews needs to be reminded of this: "on June 14, 2002, Chris Matthews himself introduced a panel discussion about a letter signed by many prominent leftists condemning the Bush administration’s conduct of the war on terror. “Let’s go to the Reverend Al Sharpton,” Matthews said. “Reverend Sharpton, what do you make of this letter and this panoply of the left condemning the Bush regime?”

And what about John Kerry's "regime change" comments that made headline news:
"What we need now is not just a regime change in Saddam Hussein and Iraq, but we need a regime change in the United States," Kerry said Wednesday in a speech to New Hampshire Democrats at the Peterborough, N.H., Town Library."

Does Matthews research before reporting?

Is this really acceptable to your news organization? Is this really responsible or even 'good' journalism or reporting?

Thank you for your time.
